Suppressing feelings

Almost anything can be done to suppress feelings. However, some common ways that children can suppress feelings are:

Thumb or finger sucking
Nail biting or nose picking
Teddy or blanket clutching
Eating or drinking to suppress
Screens to suppress

Rather than judging them or judging ourselves, we can see these as what I call ‘flags for feelings’ – indications that a child has some feelings bubbling that they need help to express rather than express.
